Chuzhou University, founded in 1950, is a provincial full-time undergraduate university with approval of Chinese Ministry of Education and a high-level application-oriented university of Anhui province. It is located in Chuzhou City of Anhui Province, a historical and cultural city, which is 20 minutes high-speed train ride to Nanjing, two hours to Shanghai and four hours to Beijing. The university enjoys superior location, convenient traffic and brilliant talents. It is adjacent to the Langya Mountain Scenic Spot and the Intoxicating Pavilion known as “the first pavilion under the sun”. Its campuses are a wonderful place to acquire learning in, which is green with luxuriant trees and pleasant with fragrant flowers and singing birds.
It occupies an area of more than 1 million square meters with two campuses of Langya and Huifeng. It has more than 17,000 full-time undergraduate students on campus and a staff of 1105 at their posts,including 714 full-time teachers,of which 88 are professors, 240 are associate professors,251 have a PhD degree (78 candidates),and 727 have a master’s degree.
Seventeen schools have been established. It offers 57 undergraduate majors, which covers eight disciplines of literature, science, engineering, economics, management, pedagogy, agronomy and art.
The university has gained many proud educational achievements. For instance, geographic information system is the national distinctive specialty, while automatization and food quality and security are two provincial distinctive specialties. Applied chemistry is the provincial key discipline.
The university also devotes much attention to scientific research and industry-teaching-research collaboration, and initiatively takes part in the local economic and social development. It has established a good relationship with many government agencies and companies. In recent years, it has undertaken over 100 national and provincial research projects and over 300 research projects at municipal and departmental level. Some lucrative scientific research is put into industry and production, which actively serves local economic development. It has several key provincial research bases of humanities and social science and over 10 scientific research centers such as geographic information technology research center and chemical engineering research center.
The university adheres to an open policy and actively carries on the exchanges and cooperation with foreign counterparts. It establishes relations with universities and colleges in the United States, Germany, Britain and Australia by sending its teachers for training abroad. More than 40 teachers have been sent to foreign universities to do their short-term training. British and American universities are our first choice. Britain’s Swansea University and USA’s Colorado Technical University, Valparaiso University and University of Bridgeport have seen most of our training teachers on their campuses. It has kept a friendly relationship with Hanseo University of South Korea. They have jointly conducted cooperation program “2 +2” in the art design for five years and more than 50 graduates have gained dual degrees. At the same time, student exchanges have been going actively. So far, we have sent 72students to University of Bridgeport for summer camp and 69 students to University Putra Malaysia for a semester’s learning.
